Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Oncology Registered Nurse to join our distinguished cancer care team in Espanola, New Mexico. This is an exceptional opportunity for an RN passionate about making a profound difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. As an Oncology RN, you will be responsible for delivering specialized nursing care to patients undergoing various cancer treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and post-surgical recovery. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing holistic care that encompasses physical, emotional, and educational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments according to established protocols and physician orders.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatments and intervene appropriately.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Provide comprehensive patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medication management, and symptom control.
- Manage and document patient vital signs, medical history, and treatment progress accurately and thoroughly.
- Collaborate with oncologists, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated care.
- Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and infection-controlled environment.
- Advocate for patient needs and ensure patient rights are protected.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current with oncology nursing best practices.
Required Skills
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico or eligibility for licensure by endorsement.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least 1 year in an oncology setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong understanding of oncology principles, chemotherapy administration, and symptom management.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, emotionally challenging environment.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience with central venous access device management.
