Job Description

Martin Marietta in Des Moines, IA, is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Concrete Mixer Truck Drivers (Trainees). No prior experience driving large commercial vehicles is required! We offer a comprehensive, fully paid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) and HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) licensing program, providing you with all the training and support needed to become a certified and successful ready-mix concrete driver. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and successfully complete all required CDL/HGV training programs.
  • Learn to safely operate and maintain a ready-mix concrete truck.
  • Understand and adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
  • Safely transport and deliver ready-mix concrete to various construction sites.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, plant personnel, and customers.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks and delivery documentation.
  • Assist with basic vehicle maintenance and cleaning as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations.

Required Skills

  • Must possess a valid standard driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
  • Willingness to commit to and successfully complete the CDL/HGV training program.
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per DOT regulations.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with the job, including climbing, bending, and lifting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience in a labor-intensive or outdoor work environment.
  • Familiarity with the Des Moines metropolitan area.
