Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and love helping others discover their next adventure? REI in Raleigh is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Outdoor & Camping Gear Outfitter to join our retail sales team. In this role, you will be the go-to expert for customers seeking the best camping equipment, hiking gear, and outdoor apparel. You will provide exceptional service, offer expert advice, and ensure every customer leaves ready for their next outdoor experience. This is an on-site position in our vibrant retail store.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage customers in a friendly and professional manner to understand their outdoor needs and preferences.
- Provide expert advice and product recommendations on a wide range of outdoor and camping gear, including tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, cooking systems, and apparel.
- Educate customers on product features, benefits, and proper usage to ensure satisfaction and safety.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using our point-of-sale system.
- Assist with merchandising, stocking shelves, and maintaining a clean and organized sales floor.
- Stay informed about new products, industry trends, and outdoor activities.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve sales goals and create a positive shopping experience.
- Help customers with returns, exchanges, and special orders.
- Uphold REI's commitment to customer service and outdoor stewardship.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for the outdoors, camping, hiking, or other outdoor activities.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly learn about new products and effectively communicate features and benefits.
- Basic computer proficiency for point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented retail environment.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail sales or customer service experience, especially in outdoor recreation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of camping, backpacking, or other outdoor gear and techniques.
- Experience with various outdoor activities (e.g., hiking, camping, climbing, paddling).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
