Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Packaging Machinery Technician to join our dynamic team in Hamilton, Ontario. As a Packaging Machinery Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient operation and optimal performance of our state-of-the-art packaging equipment. You will be responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various packaging lines, working closely with production teams to minimize downtime and maximize output. Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on packaging machinery, including fillers, sealers, labelers, cartoners, and conveyors, according to established schedules and procedures.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on packaging equipment using schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Execute timely repairs to minimize production downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
- Install, adjust, and test new or modified packaging equipment and components.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately in the CMMS system.
- Collaborate with production operators and supervisors to identify and resolve recurring equipment issues.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and food safety standards.
- Provide technical support and training to production staff on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
- Continuously seek opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains in packaging operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a maintenance technician or similar role, specifically with packaging machinery, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with proven troubleshooting abilities.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams.
- Basic understanding of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems for diagnostic purposes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all company policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade certification (e.g., Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Industrial Electrician, Automation Technician).
- Experience in the food and beverage processing industry.
- Familiarity with specific packaging technologies (e.g., HFFS/VFFS machines, multi-head weighers, robotic palletizers).
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
