Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated PLC Technician to join our industrial automation team in Somerton, Somerset. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and optimization of our automated manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and repairing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and associated industrial control systems. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of PLC-controlled equipment and systems.
- Develop, modify, and optimize PLC programs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider) to enhance machine performance and efficiency.
- Diagnose and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, and software issues in automated production lines.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on new equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning projects.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, program changes, and system configurations.
- Provide technical support and training to production operators on automation systems.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company standards during all maintenance and repair operations.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and servo drives.
- Excellent electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Familiarity with various sensor technologies, actuators, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Experience with specific PLC platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, or Schneider Unity Pro.
- Prior experience in a high-volume manufacturing or aerospace environment.
- Familiarity with industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Siemens Certified, etc.).
