Job Description

Are you looking to kickstart a rewarding career in the skilled trades? Summit Building Services Group is seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals for an Entry Level Trade position as a Public Facilities Handyman / Maintenance technician in Red Deer. No prior experience is required – we are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a desire to contribute to the upkeep of essential public spaces. This role offers comprehensive on-the-job training, mentorship, and a clear path for growth within our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians with general maintenance and repair tasks across various public facilities.
  • Perform routine inspections of facilities and report any issues or potential hazards.
  • Learn and apply basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC troubleshooting techniques under supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow all safety protocols and company procedures diligently.
  • Provide excellent customer service to facility users and internal stakeholders.
  • Complete all assigned tasks efficiently and to a high standard of quality.

Required Skills

  • Ability to follow instructions and learn new tasks quickly.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices or willingness to learn.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record (for travel between sites).
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude or interest in how things work.
  • Previous experience in a labor-intensive role (e.g., landscaping, general labor, warehouse) is an asset but not required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (training can be provided).
