Job Description
Join the Orillia Regional Transit Commission as a Public Ferry Deckhand Trainee and embark on a rewarding career in marine public transport. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in mooring and unmooring the ferry, handling ropes and lines safely and efficiently.
- Conduct routine safety checks and inspections of the vessel under supervision.
- Provide clear and friendly assistance to passengers, including boarding, disembarking, and general inquiries.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the deck and passenger areas.
- Support the Captain and senior crew members in all operational duties.
- Participate actively in all provided safety training, emergency drills, and operational briefings.
- Learn and adhere to all maritime regulations, company policies, and safety procedures.
- Assist with cargo loading and unloading, ensuring proper stowage and securing.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents promptly to the commanding officer.

- Strong physical fitness and stamina, capable of performing duties in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Marine Emergency Duties (MED A1/A2) certification (or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire).
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Previous experience in a customer service role.
- Knowledge of local waterways and marine conditions around Orillia.
- Valid G-class driver's license for reliable transport to the ferry terminal.
