Job Description
Join the Alberta Marine Transit Authority as a Public Ferry Deckhand Trainee! This entry-level position offers comprehensive, paid training for individuals passionate about starting a maritime career in public service. No prior experience is required; we’ll equip you with all the skills needed to assist in safe ferry operations, passenger services, and vessel maintenance. Become a crucial part of our government transport team, ensuring the smooth flow of people and goods on Alberta’s waterways.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Participate in mooring and unmooring operations, handling lines and securing the vessel.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning tasks on the vessel and docks.
- Actively participate in safety drills, including fire, man overboard, and emergency procedures.
- Learn and adhere to all regulatory requirements and company safety protocols.
- Operate various deck equipment under supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service to all ferry users.
- Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to senior crew.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of vehicles and cargo.
- Undertake all training modules diligently to achieve certified deckhand status.
