Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Public Lands Groundskeeper to maintain the beauty and functionality of Springfield’s cherished public parks and recreational areas. This role involves a variety of landscape maintenance tasks, ensuring our green spaces are safe, clean, and enjoyable for all visitors. This is a crucial position within our team, offering stable employment and excellent public sector benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and leaf blowing.
  • Plant, water, fertilize, and prune trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, ensuring proper watering schedules and repairs.
  • Clean and maintain park facilities, restrooms, picnic areas, and playgrounds.
  • Operate and maintain various groundskeeping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, small tractors).
  • Remove litter, debris, and hazardous materials from park grounds.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of equipment for special events.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on park amenities.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of landscape maintenance practices.
  • Ability to operate groundskeeping equipment safely.
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Valid Missouri Class F driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in park or public land maintenance.
  • Knowledge of native plants and sustainable landscaping practices.
  • Certification in pesticide application (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
