Job Description
This is an exceptional entry-level opportunity for an enthusiastic and compassionate individual to embark on a career in social services within the vital field of palliative care and hospice. As a Palliative Care & Hospice Intern, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, working alongside our experienced social workers and multidisciplinary teams. This role is designed for those with no prior professional experience, offering hands-on learning in patient and family support, resource navigation, and end-of-life care planning. You will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our patients and their families, contributing to a supportive and dignified care environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified social workers in conducting initial needs assessments for patients and their families.
- Support the coordination and delivery of practical, emotional, and social support services.
- Help patients and families navigate community resources, benefits, and support networks.
- Participate actively in team meetings, case conferences, and interdisciplinary discussions.
- Engage with patients and their families, providing compassionate presence and support under direct supervision.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
- Undertake administrative tasks that support the overall efficiency of social services within the hospice.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable empathy, compassion, and sensitivity towards individuals facing serious illness and bereavement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to listen actively.
- A strong desire to learn and develop within the palliative care and social services field.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Health Sciences, or a related human services discipline.
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare, social care, or non-profit setting.
