Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and community-minded individual to join our team as a School Crossing Officer. In this vital role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe passage of primary school children across designated intersections and crossings, particularly during peak school hours. This position requires excellent communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a friendly demeanor to interact positively with children, parents, and the general public. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to make a meaningful difference in their local community, even without prior experience in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise designated school crossings before and after school hours.
  • Ensure the safe passage of primary school children across roads.
  • Manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a visible and reassuring presence at school crossings.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and motorists regarding crossing safety.
  • Report any safety concerns, hazards, or incidents promptly to the supervisor.
  • Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations and council protocols.

Required Skills

  • High level of reliability and punctuality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated awareness of road safety principles and practices.
  • Patience, approachability, and a friendly demeanor, especially with children.
  • Ability to obtain or possession of a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a community-facing or public interaction role.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid (certification not required but beneficial).
  • Familiarity with the local Laverton community and school areas.
