Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Signaling Engineer to join our vital infrastructure team in Brighton. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, implementation, maintenance, and fault resolution of railway signaling systems. You will ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our rail network by applying expert knowledge in signaling principles, interlocking systems, and control technologies. This position requires a strong technical background and a commitment to upholding the highest safety standards in a dynamic operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and review signaling system specifications and architectural plans.
  • Lead the installation, testing, and commissioning of new signaling equipment and systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on existing signaling infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex signaling system faults and failures efficiently to minimise disruption.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, track, and power engineers, to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Ensure all work complies with Network Rail standards, national safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for signaling technology and processes.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in railway signaling design, installation, or maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of various signaling systems, including interlockings, track circuits, point operating equipment, and control systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for fault diagnosis.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Professional membership with relevant engineering bodies (e.g., IRSE).
  • Experience with specific Network Rail signaling systems and standards.
  • Familiarity with digital signaling technologies (e.g., ETCS).
