Job Description

We are seeking a talented and motivated Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our dynamic technology team in Canary Wharf, London. This is a unique opportunity for individuals who are passionate about building and operating highly reliable, scalable, and efficient systems within a global financial services environment. As an SRE at HSBC, you will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, performance, and availability of our critical applications and infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient infrastructure and application solutions.
  • Develop and deploy automation tools to reduce manual toil and improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor system health, performance, and availability, defining and tracking key SLIs/SLOs.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response, post-mortems, and preventative actions.
  • Collaborate with development teams to embed reliability practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Manage and optimize cloud resources, ensuring cost-effectiveness and security.
  • Contribute to capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Go, Bash).
  • Strong understanding of Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps principles.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, load balancing).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Proven track record of improving system reliability and performance.
  • Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures.
