Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Thoroughbred Trainer / Manager to join our esteemed team. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management and training of our string of thoroughbred racehorses, ensuring optimal performance, health, and well-being. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated equine professionals, oversee daily operations, and implement cutting-edge training methodologies. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized training programs for thoroughbred racehorses.
- Oversee daily stable operations, including feeding, grooming, and veterinary care schedules.
- Manage and mentor a team of exercise riders, grooms, and stable hands.
- Monitor horse health and performance, liaising with veterinarians, farriers, and owners.
- Prepare horses for races, including conditioning, paddock preparation, and race-day logistics.
- Maintain accurate records of training progress, health, and race entries.
- Communicate effectively with horse owners, providing regular updates on horse status and plans.
- Ensure compliance with all racing regulations, safety standards, and animal welfare guidelines.
- Manage inventory of feed, supplements, and stable supplies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in thoroughbred racehorse training or management.
- Proven ability to develop and execute effective training programs.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of equine health, nutrition, and lameness.
- Proficiency in horse handling and understanding of equine behavior.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to operate farm machinery (e.g., tractors, trailers).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or certification in Equine Science, Animal Husbandry, or a related field.
- Experience with racehorse pre-training and breaking.
- Established network within the thoroughbred racing community.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
