Job Description
Amey Plc is seeking dedicated and reliable Snow Plow / Gritter Drivers for a seasonal public sector contract in St. Andrews, Fife. This critical role ensures the safety of our communities during harsh winter conditions, keeping roads clear and passable for residents and emergency services. As a key member of our winter maintenance team, you will play an essential part in delivering vital public services. This is a temporary seasonal contract, offering competitive hourly rates for committed individuals ready to make a real difference to public safety and infrastructure resilience in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate snow plows and gritting vehicles on designated routes during periods of snow and ice.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety procedures and road traffic regulations.
- Perform daily vehicle checks, ensuring all equipment is in good working order and reporting any defects promptly.
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including route sheets and operational logs.
- Be available for call-outs during unsocial hours, evenings, weekends, and public holidays as weather conditions demand.
- Work effectively as part of a team to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.
- Maintain clear communication with supervisors regarding route progress and any issues encountered.
Required Skills
- Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving license
- Full Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
- Digital Tachograph Card
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) experience driving heavy goods vehicles
- A strong understanding of road safety and vehicle maintenance
- Ability to work flexibly and reliably, often at short notice
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating gritters or snow plows
- Winter Maintenance qualification (e.g., LANTRA 6159 Road Gritting)
- Local knowledge of the St. Andrews and Fife road network
- First Aid certification
