Job Description

We are seeking a highly passionate and experienced Special Education Lead to join our dedicated team in Townsville. This pivotal role involves providing expert leadership in the development, implementation, and oversight of specialized educational programs and interventions. The successful candidate will guide and mentor a team of special education professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based support to our clients. You will play a key role in collaborating with families and stakeholders, contributing to strategic program development, and upholding the highest standards of professional practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the comprehensive assessment, planning, and implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) and learning plans.
  • Provide expert consultation and guidance to families, educators, and support staff on best practices in special education.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support a team of special educators, therapists, and support workers.
  • Develop and deliver professional development and training initiatives for internal staff and external partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, adapting strategies to ensure optimal client outcomes.
  • Stay current with the latest research, legislative changes, and pedagogical advancements in special education.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure integrated and holistic support for clients.
  • Ensure all programs and services comply with relevant educational standards, disability legislation, and ethical guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field with a major in Special Education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized learning plans.
  • Strong understanding of various special educational needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, learning disabilities) and evidence-based interventions.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and team leadership abilities.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders including parents, school personnel, and allied health professionals.
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one.
  • Valid Australian driver's license and access to reliable transport.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Certification in specific therapeutic approaches relevant to special education (e.g., ABA, PECS, Positive Behaviour Support).
  • Experience in a private practice, consultancy, or non-government organization setting.
  • Familiarity with the Queensland curriculum framework and disability support systems.
