Job Description
Are you passionate about bringing imaginative concepts to life through hands-on creation? Carowinds Parks & Entertainment is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Effects (SFX) Workshop Assistant to join our creative fabrication team. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals with a strong desire to learn and contribute to the magic behind our attractions and events. You will work closely with experienced fabricators, designers, and technicians, assisting in the construction, modification, and maintenance of various special effects, props, and scenic elements. Full training will be provided to help you develop a comprehensive skillset in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior fabricators and technicians in the construction and assembly of SFX props, scenic elements, and interactive installations.
- Perform basic woodworking, metalworking, sculpting, and painting tasks under supervision.
- Operate various hand and power tools safely and effectively after receiving training.
- Prepare materials, maintain inventory, and ensure the workshop is clean and organized.
- Support the installation and de-installation of SFX elements for park attractions and special events.
- Learn and adhere to all safety protocols and best practices within the workshop environment.
- Assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs of SFX equipment and props.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet project deadlines and creative objectives.
Required Skills
- Strong manual dexterity and a keen eye for detail.
- Eagerness to learn new fabrication techniques and processes.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of workshop safety principles.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with hand tools or power tools (personal projects welcome).
- An artistic background or experience in crafts, modeling, or theatrical production.
- Basic knowledge of materials such as wood, foam, plastics, or metals.
