Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Sports & Rec Officer to join our team, focusing on the efficient management and promotion of council-owned sports and recreation facilities across the Port Macquarie-Hastings region. This role is crucial in ensuring our facilities are well-maintained, safe, and accessible for all community members. You will play a key role in coordinating bookings, supporting user groups, implementing programs, and contributing to the overall positive experience of facility users. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and a passion for community recreation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage bookings for council sports and recreation facilities, ensuring optimal utilization and conflict resolution.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for facility users, community groups, and sporting organizations, providing information and support.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Assist in the planning, promotion, and delivery of community sports and recreation programs and events.
  • Maintain accurate records of facility usage, maintenance activities, and program participation.
  • Collaborate with internal council departments and external stakeholders to enhance facility offerings and user experience.
  • Prepare reports on facility performance, user feedback, and program outcomes as required.
  • Ensure adherence to council policies, WHS regulations, and relevant legislation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all facility users and community members.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sports facility management, recreation coordination, or a similar customer-facing role.
  • Demonstrated experience in booking systems and administrative tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Current valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Sport Management, Recreation, Leisure Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a local government or community service environment.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of local sporting clubs and community recreation trends.
