Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically fit Street Cleaner to join our dedicated Environmental Services team. This vital role involves maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of streets, public spaces, and parks across Dundee. You will play a crucial part in enhancing the urban environment, ensuring public health, and promoting civic pride. The ideal candidate will be reliable, conscientious, and committed to upholding high standards of cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual sweeping, litter picking, and waste collection from streets, pavements, and public areas.
- Operate street cleaning equipment, including litter pickers, brooms, shovels, and potentially compactors or small mechanical sweepers.
- Empty public litter bins and replace bin liners.
- Remove fly-tipped waste, graffiti, and other debris as required.
- Report any issues such as damaged infrastructure, overflowing bins, or hazards to relevant departments.
- Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Engage positively with the public and represent Dundee City Council professionally.
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as leaf clearing or snow removal when necessary.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good observational skills to identify and report issues.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar cleaning or outdoor maintenance role.
- Full UK driving license (Category B) is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of local Dundee areas and geography.
