Job Description
We are excited to offer a unique Student Medical Intern position within our Emergency Medicine Department. This rotational opportunity is specifically designed for current medical students seeking invaluable hands-on clinical experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. Under direct supervision, you will gain exposure to a wide range of emergency presentations, from acute injuries to critical medical conditions. This is an entry-level learning position where comprehensive training and mentorship will be provided by experienced emergency physicians and senior medical staff, allowing you to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world clinical context. No prior professional experience is required; we are looking for passionate and dedicated students eager to learn and contribute to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and assist medical officers in the assessment and management of emergency patients.
- Participate in patient history taking and physical examinations under supervision.
- Assist with basic medical procedures and wound care as directed by supervising staff.
- Learn to interpret diagnostic tests, including blood work and imaging results.
- Contribute to documentation in patient medical records accurately and promptly.
- Participate in daily ward rounds and departmental teaching sessions.
- Maintain a professional and empathetic demeanour when interacting with patients and their families.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a recognised medical degree program (e.g., MBBS, MD).
- Foundational understanding of medical science, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and professional approach.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of core clinical rotations (e.g., Surgery, Internal Medicine).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Previous volunteer or shadowing experience in a healthcare setting.
- Strong academic record with a genuine interest in Emergency Medicine.
