Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Surgical Instrument Sterilization Tech to join our vital back-office team at AdventHealth Orlando. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the meticulous cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This position ensures the highest standards of infection control and patient safety, directly supporting our surgical teams. No prior experience in sterilization is required; we provide comprehensive training to equip you with the skills needed to excel in this essential healthcare function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established policies and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, sonic washers, and other specialized machinery.
  • Monitor sterilization cycles, maintain accurate records, and ensure proper documentation of all sterilization processes.
  • Inspect instruments for functionality, cleanliness, and completeness, reporting any discrepancies or damaged items.
  • Prepare surgical trays and instrument sets for various surgical procedures, ensuring all components are present and accounted for.
  • Manage inventory of sterile supplies, rotating stock and replenishing as needed to support surgical demands.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to infection control, safety, and quality assurance.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices in sterilization and instrument processing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Sterile Processing (e.g., CRCST, CBSPD) or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and surgical instruments.
