Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tool & Die Maker to join our precision manufacturing team in Guildford. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of intricate tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures essential for our advanced manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, repair, and maintain precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to determine optimal manufacturing processes.
- Operate a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines, to fabricate components.
- Perform precision measurements using a range of metrology equipment to ensure parts conform to strict quality standards.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues related to tool wear, breakage, and performance to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to optimize tooling designs and manufacturing efficiency.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Document maintenance and repair activities accurately and thoroughly.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing environment (minimum 3 years).
- Proficiency in operating conventional manual machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders).
- Ability to interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong understanding of precision measurement tools and techniques.
- Solid problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to quality and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program.
- Experience with CNC machining and programming (e.g., Fanuc, Heidenhain).
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam).
- Experience in the aerospace, automotive, or medical device industries.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
