Job Description

Embark on a dynamic and essential career with the Canada Border Services Agency as a Trainee Border Inspection Officer. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting inspections of travellers, their goods, and conveyances at various points of entry.
  • Applying Canadian legislation, including the Customs Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, to all border crossings.
  • Identifying and intercepting prohibited or restricted goods such as illegal drugs, firearms, and other contraband.
  • Collecting applicable duties and taxes.
  • Assessing security risks and making timely, informed decisions under pressure.
  • Operating various specialized equipment and information systems.
  • Maintaining clear and concise records and reports of inspection activities.
  • Providing professional and courteous service to the public while ensuring compliance.
  • Responding to emergency situations and taking appropriate enforcement actions.
  • Collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and government departments.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English and/or French.
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • High degree of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Capacity to learn and apply complex laws and regulations.
  • Good physical condition to meet the demanding requirements of the role.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid security clearance and a Canadian Passport.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and French (bilingualism is a significant asset, especially in Quebec).
  • Previous experience in a customer service, security, or law enforcement role.
  • Post-secondary education (college diploma or university degree).
  • Experience working with the public in high-pressure situations.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
