Job Description

The Naperville Fire Department is actively recruiting dedicated and community-oriented individuals for the role of Trainee Firefighter. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and successfully complete all required training modules at the fire academy.
  • Learn and apply techniques for fire suppression, hazardous material response, and emergency medical services.
  • Develop proficiency in the operation and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and equipment.
  • Participate in physical fitness training to meet and maintain departmental standards.
  • Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Engage in community outreach and fire prevention education programs.
  • Work effectively as part of a team in high-stress, dynamic environments.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License
  • Ability to meet demanding physical fitness standards (pre-employment physical assessment required)
  • Strong commitment to public service and community safety
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations
  • Demonstrated integrity and sound judgment
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Public Safety, or a related field
  • Prior experience in a physically demanding role or volunteer work
  • Basic life support (BLS) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification (can be obtained during training)
  • Residency within or willingness to relocate to the Naperville area
