Job Description
The Naperville Fire Department is actively recruiting dedicated and community-oriented individuals for the role of Trainee Firefighter. As a Trainee Firefighter, you will undergo rigorous, comprehensive training at a public sector academy, preparing you for all aspects of emergency response and fire suppression. Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and successfully complete all required training modules at the fire academy.
- Learn and apply techniques for fire suppression, hazardous material response, and emergency medical services.
- Develop proficiency in the operation and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and equipment.
- Participate in physical fitness training to meet and maintain departmental standards.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Engage in community outreach and fire prevention education programs.
- Work effectively as part of a team in high-stress, dynamic environments.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Illinois Driver's License
- Ability to meet demanding physical fitness standards (pre-employment physical assessment required)
- Strong commitment to public service and community safety
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations
- Demonstrated integrity and sound judgment
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Public Safety, or a related field
- Prior experience in a physically demanding role or volunteer work
- Basic life support (BLS) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) certification (can be obtained during training)
- Residency within or willingness to relocate to the Naperville area
