Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting new career path with no prior experience required? British Gas is offering a unique opportunity to become a qualified Smart Meter Installer, with all training and certification fully funded. This is an immediate start position designed for motivated individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the UK’s energy future. You will embark on a comprehensive training program, gaining the essential skills and knowledge to install, exchange, and maintain smart meters in domestic properties. Upon successful completion of your certification, you will transition into a field-based role, providing excellent customer service and helping households manage their energy usage more efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in a fully funded, comprehensive training program to achieve Smart Meter Installer qualifications (Dual Fuel – Gas & Electric).
- Develop a strong understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and company procedures.
- Shadow experienced engineers to learn practical installation techniques and customer interaction best practices.
- Work towards independently installing, exchanging, and maintaining smart meters in domestic properties.
- Conduct pre-installation surveys and safety checks.
- Provide excellent customer service, explaining the benefits and operation of smart meters clearly and concisely.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and electronic records accurately and efficiently.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and operational guidelines at all times.
Required Skills
- No prior experience in engineering or meter installation is required.
- A full UK driving licence (max 6 points) is essential.
- A strong willingness to learn and commit to a rigorous training program.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A customer-focused attitude with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Basic IT literacy for using handheld devices and completing digital paperwork.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive and problem-solving approach.
