Job Description

The City of Sugar Land is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Trainee Waste Management Supervisor to join our Public Works Department. This entry-level position offers comprehensive on-the-job training, designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to oversee waste collection and disposal operations. You will learn all aspects of waste management, from route optimization and equipment operation to team leadership and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Undergo intensive training in all aspects of waste management operations.
- Learn to supervise and coordinate daily activities of waste collection crews.
- Assist in planning and optimizing waste collection routes for efficiency.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Learn to inspect equipment and vehicles, reporting maintenance needs.
- Participate in operational briefings and debriefings.
- Develop skills in problem-solving and conflict resolution related to daily operations.
- Communicate effectively with team members, residents, and other city departments.
- Maintain accurate records of operations and incidents.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain one within 6 months).
- Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Basic problem-solving aptitude.
- Physical ability to perform duties in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

- No prior experience in waste management or supervision required; full training provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in environmental science, public administration, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of local geography for Sugar Land and surrounding areas.
