Job Description

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Trainee Wildlife Conservation Officers. This government-funded program offers an unparalleled opportunity to embark on a rewarding career in natural resource protection and law enforcement. No prior experience is required; we provide comprehensive training and development to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful Wildlife Conservation Officer. You will learn to enforce provincial legislation, educate the public, and contribute directly to the conservation of Ontario’s diverse wildlife.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all aspects of the comprehensive training program.
- Assist experienced Wildlife Conservation Officers in patrolling protected areas, parks, and Crown lands.
- Learn to identify and monitor wildlife populations and their habitats.
- Support investigations into alleged violations of natural resource laws and regulations.
- Engage with the public to provide information on wildlife conservation, safety, and regulations.
- Assist with data collection, record keeping, and report writing.
- Maintain and care for equipment and vehicles used in conservation operations.
- Participate in outreach and educational programs as directed.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for wildlife, environmental conservation, and outdoor activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor conditions.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and report writing.
- Must possess a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and have a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a criminal record check and other security clearances.
- Physical fitness to perform duties in challenging outdoor environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion or enrollment in a post-secondary program in Conservation, Environmental Science, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
- Experience with outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, or trapping.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Prior volunteer experience with environmental organizations or public service.
