Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Transport Manager to join our dynamic team in Birmingham. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our transport operations, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires a strong leader with a proven track record in transport logistics and a commitment to health and safety standards. You will manage a team of drivers and administrative staff, optimize routes, manage vehicle maintenance schedules, and ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of drivers and transport staff, including performance management, training, and development.
- Oversee daily transport operations, including route planning, scheduling, and load optimization.
- Ensure compliance with all transport regulations, including drivers' hours, tachograph laws, and vehicle maintenance standards.
- Manage vehicle fleet, including servicing, repairs, MOTs, and legal compliance.
- Monitor and manage transport budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
- Implement and enforce health and safety policies and procedures across all transport activities.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Utilize transport management systems to track performance and generate reports.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain high operational standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Transport Manager or in a similar senior logistics role.
- Full understanding of transport legislation, including drivers' hours, working time directive, and O-licence requirements.
- Demonstrable experience in managing and motivating a team.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- National / International CPC qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with lean logistics principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
- First Aid at Work certification.
