Job Description
Join the City of Stirling’s dedicated Arboriculture team as a Tree Maintenance Crew member. This essential role involves undertaking a variety of tasks related to the care, maintenance, and preservation of the City’s trees. You will contribute to maintaining safe and attractive public spaces, ensuring the health and longevity of our urban forest, and responding to tree-related service requests. This is a hands-on position requiring physical fitness, attention to safety, and a commitment to quality arboricultural practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform tree pruning, shaping, and removal using various hand and power tools (e.g., chainsaws, pole saws, chippers).
- Operate elevated work platforms (EWPs) and other heavy machinery as required for tree work.
- Conduct tree planting, watering, mulching, and general tree care.
- Inspect trees for disease, pest infestations, and structural defects, reporting findings to supervisors.
- Respond to emergency call-outs for fallen trees or storm damage.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, council policies, and industry best practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and operational condition.
- Assist with traffic management and public safety during tree work operations.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate professionally with the public.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures and ability to follow instructions.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn and undertake training.
- Current C-Class (manual) Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate II or III in Arboriculture or Horticulture.
- Experience in tree pruning, felling, and chipper operation.
- Experience operating an Elevated Work Platform (EWP).
- Chainsaw operation competency.
- Traffic management accreditation (Basic Worksite Traffic Management or equivalent).
- HR (Heavy Rigid) Class Driver's License.
