Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Tunneling Engineer to join our dynamic team based out of our Walsall office, working on significant infrastructure projects across the UK. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to complex and challenging tunneling projects. You will be instrumental in the design, analysis, and execution phases of our tunneling projects, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with the highest engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the detailed design and analysis of various tunneling methods (e.g., TBM, cut-and-cover, sprayed concrete lining).
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and drawings in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Perform geotechnical analysis and numerical modeling to support design decisions.
- Provide technical support and supervision during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including geologists, structural engineers, and project managers.
- Assist in the preparation of tender submissions and project proposals.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in client meetings and stakeholder engagements.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tunneling or underground construction projects.
- Proficiency in geotechnical design software (e.g., Plaxis, Rocscience suite) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and underground structure design principles.
- Familiarity with various tunneling methods and ground support systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrable experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Tunneling, Geotechnical Engineering, or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards it with a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE).
- Experience with BIM software and processes.
- Knowledge of UK design codes and standards relevant to tunneling.
