Job Description
Are you an ambitious student eager to kickstart your career in the insurance industry? Intact Financial Corporation is seeking a motivated Underwriting Intern to join our Property & Casualty (P&C) team in Lethbridge, Alberta. As an intern, you will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of an underwriting department, learning the fundamentals of risk assessment, policy issuance, and client relations within the P&C sector. This role is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, providing comprehensive training and mentorship to develop your skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist underwriters with policy reviews, renewals, and new business applications.
- Support the assessment and selection of risks by gathering and analyzing relevant data.
- Learn to identify risk factors and apply underwriting guidelines under supervision.
- Prepare quotes and policy documents accurately.
- Maintain organized records and documentation for underwriting files.
- Communicate with brokers and internal teams to facilitate the underwriting process.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to deepen understanding of insurance products and processes.
- Conduct research on market trends and industry best practices to support underwriting decisions.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (e.g., Business, Finance, Risk Management, Economics or related field).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of insurance concepts or a demonstrated interest in the insurance industry.
- Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
