Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Urban Farm Harvest Assistant to join our team for the upcoming growing season. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, value early finishes, and are passionate about sustainable agriculture. As a Harvest Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of our urban farm, primarily focusing on the harvesting and post-harvest handling of a variety of crops. This physically active role requires a commitment to quality and efficiency, working closely with our farm manager to ensure our produce meets the highest standards from farm to table. No prior farming experience is required; we provide comprehensive on-the-job training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily harvesting of various fruits, vegetables, and herbs according to established protocols.
  • Assist with post-harvest handling, including washing, sorting, and packaging produce for distribution.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of harvest areas and equipment.
  • Participate in crop care tasks such as weeding, watering, and pest management as needed.
  • Operate basic farm tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor crop quality and report any issues or concerns to the farm manager.
  • Adhere to all food safety and organic certification standards.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for sustainable agriculture and fresh, local food.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a farm, garden, or outdoor work setting.
  • Knowledge of basic plant care or gardening techniques.
  • Valid driver's license.
