Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Virtual Proofreader to join our remote team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for meticulously reviewing self-published manuscripts to eliminate typographical errors, grammatical mistakes, punctuation inconsistencies, and spelling errors. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home in Huddersfield or anywhere else in the UK. You will play a vital part in ensuring the quality and readability of various literary works, helping self-published authors present their best work to the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly proofread self-published manuscripts across diverse genres for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors.
- Ensure consistency in formatting, terminology, and adherence to specified style guides (e.g., Chicago, AP, or client-specific instructions).
- Utilize track changes and comment features in Microsoft Word or similar software to make corrections and suggest improvements.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail under tight deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with project managers regarding project status or any issues encountered.
Required Skills
- Exceptional command of the English language (grammar, spelling, punctuation).
- Proven ability to identify and correct errors with precision and speed.
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for inconsistencies.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs).
- Reliable internet connection and a dedicated home workspace.
