Job Description
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Wayfinding Specialist – Architectural to join our growing team in Maryborough. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing intuitive and effective wayfinding systems that enhance user experience within architectural spaces. You will work closely with architects, interior designers, and clients to develop comprehensive signage, graphic, and spatial navigation strategies for a variety of projects, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and aesthetic integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive wayfinding strategies and master plans for diverse architectural projects (e.g., hospitals, commercial complexes, public spaces, educational institutions).
- Design and specify signage programs, including textual content, pictograms, material specifications, and installation methods.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate wayfinding solutions seamlessly into architectural designs and interior layouts.
- Conduct site analyses, user research, and stakeholder interviews to understand project requirements and user behaviors.
- Prepare detailed design documentation, including sign location plans, message schedules, fabrication drawings, and graphic specifications.
- Ensure wayfinding solutions comply with relevant accessibility standards (e.g., DDA, ADA) and local building codes.
- Present design concepts to clients and project stakeholders, incorporating feedback and iterating designs as necessary.
- Coordinate with fabricators, installers, and other vendors to ensure high-quality production and implementation of wayfinding elements.
- Stay informed about industry best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends in wayfinding and environmental graphic design.
Required Skills
- Strong portfolio demonstrating wayfinding, environmental graphics, or architectural signage design.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and AutoCAD.
- Excellent understanding of human-centered design principles and spatial navigation.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex information into clear and concise visual and textual wayfinding solutions.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality design execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Experience with 3D rendering software (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino, Revit).
- Knowledge of sign fabrication processes and materials.
- Experience working on large-scale public or commercial projects.
- Understanding of Australian accessibility standards (DDA).
