Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Zoo & Aquarium Public Education Intern to join our team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental education within a dynamic zoo and aquarium setting. You will learn to deliver engaging programs, assist with educational outreach, and support our mission to inspire conservation. Full training will be provided to ensure your success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist education staff with the delivery of daily public programs, including animal encounters, guided tours, and interactive exhibits.
- Support the development and preparation of educational materials and activity stations.
- Engage with visitors of all ages, answering questions and providing accurate information about our animals and conservation efforts.
- Help facilitate school group visits, summer camps, and special events.
- Contribute to the care and maintenance of educational program supplies and resources.
- Observe and learn best practices in informal science education and animal husbandry.
- Participate in departmental meetings and professional development opportunities.
Required Skills
- Enthusiasm for marine life, wildlife, and environmental conservation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable speaking to groups.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the internship schedule.
- Willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Education, or a related field.
- Previous experience volunteering or working with children or in an educational setting.
- Basic knowledge of local marine and wildlife species.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
