Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Chemical Plant Drum Mover to join our team in Calgary. This role is crucial for maintaining the efficient and safe flow of materials within our heavy industrial chemical plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and precise movement of various drums and barrels, ensuring proper storage and delivery to production areas. This is a hands-on position requiring adherence to strict safety protocols and an ability to work in a dynamic industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely move, roll, stack, and unstack chemical drums and barrels using appropriate manual techniques and equipment (e.g., drum dollies, hand trucks).
- Load and unload drums from trucks and other transport vehicles.
- Verify drum contents and labels against manifest or inventory sheets.
- Organize and store drums in designated areas, ensuring compliance with hazardous material storage regulations.
- Perform routine inspections of drums for damage or leaks and report any issues immediately.
- Assist with general warehouse and plant housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks if certified (training may be provided).
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and governmental regulations, including those related to hazardous materials handling.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs consistently) and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented industrial environment.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial setting.
- Experience handling drums or barrels.
- Forklift operator certification or experience.
- Familiarity with WHMIS or other hazardous materials handling protocols.
