Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and safety-focused Lumber Yard Forklift Operator for immediate hire at our Pasadena location. This role is crucial to our operations, involving the safe and efficient movement of lumber and other building materials within our outdoor yard environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for loading and unloading trucks, organizing inventory, and assisting customers with material retrieval. This is a full-time position that requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and maintaining a high standard of safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to load and unload lumber and other building materials from delivery trucks and customer vehicles.
- Transport materials to and from designated storage areas within the yard, ensuring proper organization and accessibility.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and other equipment, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the lumber yard.
- Assist customers and sales staff with material identification, selection, and loading.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in inventory counts and help manage stock rotation.
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth yard operations and customer satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating a forklift, preferably in a lumber yard or similar outdoor industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of forklift safety protocols and best practices.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor environment, enduring various weather conditions.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy objects, stand, bend, and move frequently throughout the shift.
- Basic math and measurement skills for handling lumber products.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid forklift certification.
- Previous experience in a building materials or construction supply environment.
- Knowledge of various types of lumber and building materials.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
