Job Description

Are you passionate about working outdoors, getting your hands dirty, and contributing to a healthier community? Detroit Harvest Collective is seeking an enthusiastic Urban Farm Harvest Assistant to join our team in Corktown. This full-time position involves significant physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions, primarily focused on harvesting, processing, and preparing produce for distribution. If you thrive in an active environment and appreciate early finishes, this role is for you. Full training will be provided to ensure you master all necessary farm techniques and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily harvesting of various crops according to schedule and quality standards.
  • Assist with post-harvest handling, including washing, sorting, weighing, and packing produce.
  • Prepare produce for market and distribution, ensuring freshness and presentation.
  • Participate in crop maintenance tasks such as weeding, watering, and pest management.
  • Support planting, transplanting, and bed preparation activities as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of harvesting tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Adhere to food safety and occupational health and safety guidelines.
  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods outdoors.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • A keen interest in sustainable agriculture and community food systems.
  • Punctuality and commitment to early morning starts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in farming, gardening, or outdoor labor is a plus but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of different vegetable crops and harvesting techniques.
  • Valid driver's license.
