Job Description
Bell Canada is seeking a highly motivated Virtual Website Accessibility Tester to join our remote team. This is a unique opportunity for individuals with practical screen reader experience to contribute to making our digital products universally accessible. While formal testing experience is a plus, it is not required; we welcome applicants who are proficient users of screen readers and are eager to learn the methodologies of accessibility testing. You will play a crucial role in identifying accessibility barriers and ensuring our websites and applications comply with WCAG standards, enhancing the user experience for all, especially those with disabilities. This is a 100% remote position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive accessibility testing on websites and web applications using various screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and other assistive technologies.
- Identify and document accessibility issues according to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA) standards.
- Provide detailed reports on findings, including steps to reproduce issues and recommendations for remediation.
- Collaborate with development and design teams to ensure accessibility best practices are integrated throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in training and continuous learning to stay updated on accessibility standards and assistive technologies.
- Conduct regression testing to verify the resolution of identified accessibility defects.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency and extensive practical experience using at least one major screen reader (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) for web browsing and application use.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify subtle accessibility issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly articulate findings and recommendations.
- Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently in a remote environment.
- A passion for digital accessibility and a commitment to creating inclusive user experiences.
- Ability to learn new tools and methodologies quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 or higher.
- Previous experience in a quality assurance or testing role.
- Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as they relate to accessibility.
- Knowledge of other assistive technologies beyond screen readers.
- Certification in accessibility testing (e.g., IAAP CPACC, WAS).
