Job Description
Are you passionate about the outdoors and eager to learn a skilled trade? Thanet District Council is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our Parks & Green Spaces Department as a City Arborist Assistant / Tree Surgeon Trainee. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for those with little to no prior experience in arboriculture. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training, mentorship from experienced arborists, and support for industry-recognized qualifications. You will assist our certified tree surgeons in all aspects of tree care, from planting and pruning to disease management and emergency removals, ensuring the health and safety of trees within Margate and the wider Thanet district. Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified arborists and tree surgeons with daily tasks, including tree planting, pruning, felling, and removal.
- Learn and apply safe working practices, including proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment (e.g., chainsaws, wood chippers, climbing gear).
- Participate in ground crew operations, including site setup, clearing debris, and ensuring public safety during tree work.
- Perform general maintenance of tools, vehicles, and machinery.
- Help with site cleanup and waste disposal following tree surgery operations.
- Support emergency call-outs for storm-damaged trees or hazardous situations.
- Follow instructions and contribute positively to a cohesive and safety-conscious team environment.
- Undertake training and development opportunities to gain relevant certifications and skills.
