Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and experienced Golf Course Superintendent to lead our course maintenance team. This pivotal role requires an individual with extensive expertise in turf management, irrigation systems, staff leadership, and environmental stewardship. The Superintendent will be responsible for the overall care and conditioning of our historic links course, ensuring it meets the high standards expected by our club. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive golf course maintenance programs, including cultural practices, pest management, and nutrient applications.
- Manage, train, and mentor a team of grounds staff, fostering a positive, productive, and safe work environment.
- Prepare and manage the departmental budget, controlling costs while ensuring the highest quality standards.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all irrigation systems, ensuring optimal water usage and turf health.
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all golf course equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to golf course operations.
- Collaborate closely with the General Manager and Greens Committee to align maintenance practices with club objectives and strategic plans.
- Oversee landscape management for clubhouse surroundings, practice areas, and other club property.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, technological advancements, and innovative turf management techniques.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a leadership role (e.g., Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent).
- In-depth knowledge of turfgrass science, pathology, entomology, and integrated pest management.
- Demonstrated experience with modern irrigation systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in team management, scheduling, and staff development.
- Strong financial acumen, including budget preparation and management.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining specialized golf course equipment.
- Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations pertinent to golf courses.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or certification in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
- Experience specifically with coastal links courses and their unique environmental challenges.
- Current pesticide applicator's license (or ability to obtain one upon employment).
- Familiarity with environmental certifications and sustainable golf course management practices.
- Proficiency in golf course management software.
