Job Description

Join our dedicated Public Safety team as a Marine Patrol Assistant, playing a vital role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of Southampton’s waterways. Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated waterways using provided watercraft to ensure public safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Respond to incidents, provide assistance to boaters, and offer guidance on local marine rules and best practices.
  • Conduct routine checks of mooring areas, navigational aids, and public access points.
  • Report and document incidents, observations, and enforcement activities accurately.
  • Assist in the maintenance and basic care of marine patrol equipment and watercraft.
  • Engage with the public, providing friendly and helpful information about waterway use and safety.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills in marine operations and public safety.

Required Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the public.
  • A proactive and responsible approach to public safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Good physical fitness, capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions and performing tasks associated with marine operations.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid UK driving license.
  • Willingness to learn and operate various types of watercraft after receiving training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
  • Basic knowledge of maritime regulations or water safety.
  • First Aid certification.
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent certification (training will be provided if not held).
