Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic Government Funded Youth Worker to join our team, specifically for evening and weekend shifts. This role is crucial in delivering essential support and programming to youth aged 12-18 during non-school hours, when they often require structured activities and mentorship the most. You will be responsible for supervising recreational, educational, and social programs, ensuring a safe and engaging atmosphere. This position requires an individual who is proactive, an excellent communicator, and committed to making a tangible positive impact on young lives in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and supervise evening and weekend youth programs and activities, including recreational sports, arts & crafts, educational workshops, and social events.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and active listening to youth, offering support in navigating personal and social challenges.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, adhering to organizational policies and procedures.
- Mediate conflicts and promote positive social interactions among youth.
- Assist in the planning and development of new program initiatives tailored to youth interests and needs.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and report any incidents or concerns to senior staff.
- Collaborate with other team members and community partners to enhance program delivery.
- Act as a positive role model and advocate for youth within the community.
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed, following established protocols.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building rapport and trust.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Proven problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and access to reliable transportation.
- Current Criminal Record Check (or willingness to obtain one upon offer).
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or certificate in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
- Experience working with at-risk youth or in a community program setting.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of local community resources and youth services.
- Fluency in a second language relevant to the local population.
