Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Formulation Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team in Falmouth. This role involves designing, developing, and optimizing new product formulations, primarily within the food and beverage sector. You will be instrumental in bringing innovative concepts from the laboratory to commercial viability, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. This is an on-site position based in our state-of-the-art laboratory facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize new product formulations based on project briefs and market needs.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments, including ingredient selection, mixing, and stability testing.
  • Analyze raw materials and finished products using various analytical techniques.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and conclusions thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, sensory scientists, and quality assurance teams.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, scientific literature, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D department.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 2-4 years of experience in formulation development, preferably within the food, beverage, or related industry.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment relevant to formulation science.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Understanding of stability testing principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant scientific field.
  • Experience with specific ingredient categories (e.g., proteins, hydrocolloids, flavours).
  • Familiarity with scaling-up formulations from lab to pilot plant to production.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality systems (e.g., HACCP, ISO).
