Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Prosecutorial & District Attorney Intern to join our team in Columbus, Ohio. This internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a busy prosecuting attorney’s office. You will work alongside experienced prosecutors and legal staff, assisting with various aspects of criminal justice, from initial case review to trial preparation. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about public service and eager to explore a career in law enforcement or criminal law. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with legal research and memorandum drafting.
- Organize and review discovery materials, including police reports, witness statements, and evidence.
- Prepare case files for court proceedings, including arraignments, pre-trials, and trials.
- Observe court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and grand jury sessions.
- Communicate with law enforcement agencies and other legal professionals as directed.
- Provide administrative support to legal staff, including filing, data entry, and document management.
- Attend and participate in team meetings and training sessions.
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in legal research methods (Westlaw, LexisNexis preferred but not required).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest in criminal law, public service, or law enforcement.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited law school (1L or 2L preferred).
- Undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Pre-Law, or a related field.
- Previous experience in an office environment or legal setting (volunteer or paid) is a plus.
