Job Description
Are you a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in cybersecurity looking to launch your career? Telus is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Threat Analyst to join our remote team. This is an entry-level position perfect for those with little to no prior experience, as comprehensive training will be provided. You will play a crucial role in monitoring security events, identifying potential threats, and contributing to the overall security posture of our organization. This position operates on a night shift schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage of our critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor security information and event management (SIEM) systems for alerts and anomalies during night shifts.
- Perform initial triage and analysis of security incidents to determine scope and impact.
- Escalate complex security incidents to senior analysts or appropriate teams following established protocols.
- Document all security events, investigations, and incident response activities accurately and thoroughly.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of security monitoring and incident response procedures.
- Stay informed about the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- No prior cybersecurity experience required; full training will be provided.
- Strong passion for technology and a genuine interest in cybersecurity.
- Basic understanding of IT networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, etc.) and operating systems (Windows, Linux).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working a consistent night shift schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ (or willingness to obtain within first 6-12 months).
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
- Exposure to SIEM tools or other security monitoring platforms.
- Experience with incident response methodologies.
