Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our Estate Management team at the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus. This role involves maintaining the beauty and functionality of our extensive university grounds, ensuring a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing environment for all campus users. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team, contributing to the overall campus experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mowing lawns and turf areas using various machinery.
  • Weeding, planting, and maintaining flowerbeds and shrubberies.
  • Pruning trees and hedges as required.
  • Leaf clearing and general site tidiness.
  • Assisting with the upkeep of pathways, car parks, and outdoor sports facilities.
  • Operating and maintaining grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Reporting any hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Undertaking seasonal tasks such as gritting and snow clearance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor role.
  • Knowledge of various horticultural techniques.
  • Ability to operate grounds maintenance machinery (e.g., mowers, strimmers).
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
  • Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to work.
  • Full UK driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent.
  • PA1/PA6 certification for pesticide application.
  • Experience working in a large institutional or public setting.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment maintenance.
