Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Forklift Operator to join our bustling lumber yard in Brighton. This is a full-time position offering immediate start for an individual who thrives in an outdoor, fast-paced environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring the efficient movement, storage, and retrieval of timber and other building materials, supporting our operational flow and customer service. You must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, demonstrating reliability and a strong commitment to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate counterbalance and/or reach forklifts safely and efficiently within the lumber yard.
- Load and unload delivery vehicles with timber, sheet materials, and other building supplies.
- Stack and organize materials in designated storage areas, ensuring proper inventory management.
- Conduct daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and report any defects or maintenance needs.
- Assist customers with loading materials onto their vehicles when required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment within the yard.
- Adhere to all company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Perform general yard duties as needed to support the team.
Required Skills
- Valid Forklift Operator certification (e.g., RTITB, ITSSAR) for counterbalance and/or reach trucks.
- Proven experience operating forklifts in a busy outdoor environment, preferably a timber or builders yard.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety regulations.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a builders merchant or timber yard.
- Knowledge of various timber products and building materials.
- Full UK driving license.
