Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and talented Urban Planner / Town Planner to join our dynamic team in Southampton. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of urban and regional planning projects, working alongside leading experts in the field. You will play a crucial role in developing sustainable communities, master planning, regeneration schemes, and policy development. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of planning applications, appeals, and policy documents.
  • Conduct site appraisals, feasibility studies, and urban capacity assessments.
  • Undertake research and analysis to inform planning strategies and proposals.
  • Contribute to the development of master plans and regeneration frameworks.
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities on planning matters.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and design briefs.
  • Keep abreast of relevant planning legislation, policy, and best practice.
  • Support senior planners on complex projects and initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Town Planning, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the UK planning system and relevant legislation.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A keen interest in sustainable development and placemaking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) or graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Previous experience (including internships) in a planning consultancy, local authority, or related organisation.
  • Knowledge of urban design principles and master planning techniques.
