Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse to join our critical care team in Dundee. This pivotal role involves providing expert nursing care to critically ill patients, utilizing advanced monitoring technologies, and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering exceptional patient care, possess strong clinical acumen, and be adept at working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You will be instrumental in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients requiring intensive support, ensuring their comfort and recovery. Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
- Monitor patient vital signs, interpret data, and escalate changes appropriately.
- Administer medications, manage intravenous lines, and operate life-support equipment.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for each patient.
- Collaborate effectively with doctors, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and their families about care plans and conditions.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
- Participate in ward rounds, clinical discussions, and team meetings.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and national guidelines for patient safety and care.
- Act as a mentor and resource for junior staff and students.
Required Skills
- Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience, with at least 1 year in an acute or critical care setting.
- Demonstrable clinical skills in managing critically ill patients.
- Proficiency in advanced life support (e.g., ALS, ATLS, PALS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound clinical decisions.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in Critical Care Nursing.
- Experience with specific ICU technologies (e.g., advanced ventilation, renal replacement therapy).
- Experience in teaching or mentoring junior staff.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit or service improvement projects.
